This ketchup based barbecue sauce has a great balance of sweet/tart flavour, with a thick, smooth texture that will cling to your foods. This basting sauce is good to have on hand for barbecuing, frying or cooking in the oven. We use it on chicken, pork and tofu and it use to baste at the final stages of cooking. Make sure you have sauce set aside to serve with your cooked food.
1 C (250 ml) ketchup
1/2 C (125 ml) spicy ketchup
3 T (45 ml) Worcestershire sauce
3 T (45 ml) Dijon mustard
3 T (45 ml) cider vinegar
2 T (30 ml) dark brown sugar
1 T (15 ml) garlic–minced
2 T (30 ml) onion–grated using large holes
- In small saucepan, add all ingredients.
- Simmer over medium heat, stirring.
- Cook until ketchup consistency.
- Let cool and transfer into container for future use.
